This is a tale of two wines that proved to be a match made in heaven. The Margaret River (Amadeus vineyard) Cabernet component was picked at optimum ripeness and hand sorted to remove any lesser berries. The Mudgee Merlot was from a single vineyard (Wooloomooloo), harvested at optimal flavour, seed and tannin ripeness and showing Merlot’s trademark ripe tobacco leaf character.

This Chardonnay, grown on Mudgee’s high altitude climate and ancient red-brownearth, was produced in our modern winery with the best of traditional winemaking techniques – giving an aromatic and fruit-driven wine with structure and minerality at the core.

Numerous individual parcels of chardonnay grapes were night-harvested from the family’s wide-ranging Mudgee vineyards and fermented at cool temperatures to retainaroma and flavour. A variety of traditional winemaking regimes were employed to produce a complex, yet fruit driven style. 

The grapes were harvested from the Acacia Ridge Vineyard in Frankland River and the Oatley family’s Wooloomooloo Vineyard in northern Mudgee. The two wines were made separately according to traditional winemaking practices and blended after fermentation then matured in French oak barrels for about 15 months before bottling at the family’s Mudgee winery
