In the heart of the world-renowned Coonawarra district, two majestic bronze stallions welcome visitors to the Rymill family's distinctive winery.
Founded by John Riddoch in 1890, the Coonawarra region lies in South Australia’s Limestone Coast viticultural zone, mid-way between Adelaide and Melbourne and one hundred kilometres inland from the Southern Ocean. Over the ensuing century Coonawarra earned the reputation of being ‘the most preferred region in Australia for red wine’, but it was not until 2003 that its boundary was legally defined by the Geographic Indications Committee.
In 1890 John Riddoch founded Coonawarra, the history of which is inextricably entwined with the Riddoch and Rymill families. His grandson, John Riddoch Rymill, was a distinguished polar explorer, whose son Peter and his wife Judy, both farmers and keen equestrians, established the Rymill Coonawarra Winery in 1990.
