The name Starvedog Lane pays homage to the original German settlers of the Adelaide Hills. Upon arriving in Adelaide in 1888, they pitched a large encampment of tents in a parallel line down at Port Adelaide as they had very little money. These German settlers were to become pioneers and founders of Hahndorf, todays heart of the Adelaide Hills.
