Established in 1978 by Brian Stonier and his wife Noel in the coastal town of Merricks, Stonier is considered a pre-eminent Mornington Penisular producer of wines made from some of the region's oldest vines.
The first Chardonnay was planted in 1978 and the Pinot Noir in 1982. The cool maritime climate proved ideal for these early ripening varieties.
The wines were initially made off-site until the stricking Stonier winery, designed by architect Daryl Jackson, was completed in 1991.
