Wither Hills lies at the heart of this natural abundance. The winery is named after the imposing Wither Hills ranges, which form a dramatic backdrop to our vineyards which enjoy long sunlight hours, cool nights and are nourished by the waters of the Wairau River.

Marlborough is New Zealand's largest winemaking region, with around 110 wineries and over 12,000 hectares planted in grapes. The region produces about 79% of the nation's wine output.

Located at the northeast tip of the South Island of New Zealand, Marlborough is a place of raw natural beauty, with vineyards bordered by the ocean and the Wither Hills mountain ranges.

Most of the region's soils were laid down in the last 14,000 years providing fertile ground for grape-growing, the vines nourished by the waters of the Wairau River. One of the sunniest and driest places in New Zealand, the ‘cooler' climate is ideal for nurturing premium grapes to full ripeness.

The region has two major geographical valleys, the Wairau and the Awatere. Vines were first planted in the Wairau Valley in 1973, and it is here that Wither Hills' estate vineyards have flourished, with varieties such as Sauvignon Blanc
