The fruit for the Secret Stone Marlborough Chardonnay was machine harvested and pressed on receival into the winery. Various winemaking techniques were used on the individual parcels within this blend to create a more complex wine.
Pale straw in colour with green hues.The nose is full of cashews, melon and tropical fruits with light toasty oak adding complexity. The palate is bursting with intense sweet fruit flavour and is generous and full.
Sourced from the higher elevations of our Estate grown vineyard above 600m (Orange appellation) “Climbing” wines exhibit intense flavours courtesy of lower yielding vines set on ancient soils, extremely cool nights and carefully nurtured viticulture.
During the growing season winemakers and viticulturists spent many days amongst the Chardonnay vines in Padthaway selecting parcels of fruit from the most promising vineyards. What they found were grapes expressing ripe varietal fruit flavours with balanced natural acidity. To determine the ideal harvest date sugar and acid levels were monitored in conjunction with flavour accumulation, and vine condition.
The complexities of the aroma follow on to an intriguingly complex pallet. This is a strong wine with layer upon layer of elegant, and subtly integrated, fruit and oak. The white peach fruit is ripe and full and is balanced by soft lemon citrus acidity whilst the oak adds nuances of smoky, spicy, nuttiness.
The concept of blending Shiraz and Viognier is not new. It is derived from the great French wine region of Northern Rhone, in particular, the Côte Rôtie area. Côte Rôtie has often been described as one of France's finest and most perfumed red wines. Yalumba is excited to release this magical wine. Using only the best Barossa fruit, the Yalumba Hand Picked Shiraz Viognier is both unique in style and rich in concentrated fruit flavour.
Selected vineyard parcels were harvested and gently pressed to extract the finest quality juice. A combination of stainless steel and barrel fermentation in French oak has provided a wine of freshness and complexity.

Dark crimson red with a scarlet hue, aromas of blackcurrant and mulberry spice are complemented by hints of classic Margaret River dried herbs and bay leaf. A rich, supple red wine displaying flavours of cassis and mulberry fruit with an underlying sweet oak spice. The palate is beautifully rounded with fine, powdery tannins.

Medium straw in colour, this wine displays intense aromas of spice, fresh white peach and preserved lemon. Toasty oak with a hint of buttery richness will feature in the wine whilst it is young.
This Chardonnay exhibits a smooth, delicate palate with a mineral lemony acidity, and also shows flavours of stone fruit and grapefruit, interplaying on the palate with creamy toast characters. The wine is integrated and seamless with a crisp acid finish which gives a juicy character to the wine.
