Origin - Almost always a multi-district blend from South Australia. Significant Shiraz contributions from the Barossa Valley and McLaren Vale; Cabernet Sauvignon from Coonawarra, McLaren Vale, Patdhaway, Robe and Bordertown.
Fermentation - Stainless steel tanks with wax-lined/wooden header boards. All components complete fermentation in barrel.
Maturation - 18-20 months in new American oak hogsheads (300 litres).
Deep Crimson. A spectacular Grange showing extraordinary perfume, luxuriant fruit power and richness. Perfectly ripe, pure opulant blackberry/dark chocolate/apricot aromas with fresh cedar/spicey oak. An expansive, densely packed wine laced with roasted coffee/dark chocolate/apricot/meaty flavours and intertwined with beautifully seasoned toasty/cedar oak. Ripe velvety smooth, mouth filling tannins sweep and drive the fruit across the palate. The flavours seemingly last forever. So could the wine. A Vin de Garde. 97% Shiraz, 3% Cabernet Sauvignon. Kalimna Vineyards (Barossa Valley), Barossa Valley, Magill Estate (Adelaide), Padthaway blend. A mild, early growing season was followed by very hot, dry weather with virtually all dam water reserves exhausted. An exceptional vintage.
