Riesling was one of the highlights of the 2011 Clare Valley vintage. Night harvesting commenced on the 10th of March and finished on the 19th of March. All parcels selected came in at optimum ripeness and displayed the characteristics of fine Clare Valley Riesling; high natural acidity, intense citrus flavours and floral notes – attributable to the region’s higher altitudes. A cool growing season with above average rainfall delayed ripening by around three weeks. The Riesling grapes benefitted from the cool, mild conditions with a gentle period of flavour development.

Wine has been flowing in the Clare Valley since 1851 and is an integral part of the culture. It is one of Australia’s most prestigious premium wine regions famous for its Riesling and Shiraz. A tiny area accounting for less than 1.5% of the total Australian production. With its beautiful rolling hills, ideal winter rainfall and Mediterranean climate, Clare Valley carries a unique history and winemaking heritage.
