The 2010 vintage for whites in Clare was nothing less than perfect, with vintage starting around the historical average. After a mild to warm January and February, temperatures during harvest were kind to the winemaking team. This resulted in very good conditions for harvesting, with the minimum night temperature rarely above 15C. The winemaking team at Jim Barry have been astounded by the quality of the 2010 Sauvignon Blanc/Semillon juices and resultant wines. Vintage in the Adelaide Hills was conducted in ideal conditions, and as a result some beautifully flavoured Sauvignon Blanc grapes were harevsted. Intense, zesty fruit flavours with moderate sugar levels augmented with natural acidity are probably the standout qualities of the 2010 vintage.
The Clare Valley is one of Australia’s most prestigious premium wine regions—a tiny area accounting for less than 1.5% of the total Australian wine production. With its beautiful rolling hills, ideal winter rainfall and Mediterranean climate, Clare Valley carries a unique history and winemaking heritage. The Adelaide Hills is the oldest wine region in South Australia, with the first vines were planted in 1839. It is one of the few regions in Australia to enjoy four distinct seasons and has a reputation as one of Australia’s premium cool climate wine regions. It is particularly renowned for the quality of its Sauvignon Blanc.
