Widely planted in Australia, Chardonnay produces rich, flavoursome wines in warm climates and more complex wines with finesse in cooler climates. Generally fermented or aged in oak but unwooded styles are also popular.
The Chardonnay for Oxford Landing Estates is grown on a range of red sandy soils over limestone. Carefully controlled irrigation of these individual sites allows optimal fruit flavour to develop. A relatively cool December and January allowed for flavours to develop well throughout a mild and extended ripening season. Twenty per cent of the blend was fermented using wild yeast present on the grapes at harvest. The bright and fresh flavours of citrus and stonefruit are melded seamlessly with extended lees contact to provide a silky rich mid-palate. A small portion of reserve wine from French oak barrels contribute extra layers of complexity and texture to enhance the wine’s innate fruit drive.

A pale golden straw with vibrant green hues, the Oxford Landing Estates Chardonnay 2010 has lifted aromas of freshly cut white peaches, citrus and honeydew melon with an underlying hint of nougat, nutmeg and cinnamon spice. The clean, crisp palate has a wonderfully even texture with underlying white stone fruits and fresh citrus flavours and tantalising mineral acidity. A fine creamy texture is the result of continual lees stirring.
